Preparation of carrier-free radionuclides from cyclotron targets by continuous electrophoresis, II

Abstract

Continuous electrophoretic separations of the components of cadmium, indium lead and bismuth cyclotron targets after bombardment with deuterons are described. The rates of separation were: cadmium target, 0.85 mg Cd/h and 1.2 mg Cd/h; indium target, 2.4 mg In/h; lead target, 1.33 mg Pb/h; bismuth target, 2.5 mg Bi/h. The results are presented by radioautographs and in diagrams showing the distribution of the target material and radioactivity along the lower edge of the filter paper sheets. The radiochemical purity of the separated radionuclides was checked by means of gamma-spectrometry, by estimation of β- and α-energies and by evaluation of the decay curves. The radionuclides were obtained in carrier-free form and in high radiochemical purity.
